FLY FISHING GLACIER NATIONAL PARK WITH BIGFORK ANGLERS FLY SHOP
The Main Stem of the Flathead River is one of Montana’s largest rivers. Draining a sizeable portion of Northwest Montana, including parts of Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex, the waters of the Flathead River flow swiftly through some of the most beautiful scenery Montana has to offer. Fly fishing the Flathead River does not require exact fly imitations nor does it require perfect technique which makes this a great river for beginners. The Flathead River is fed primarily by snowmelt, resulting in clear, cold water that has fewer nutrients than many other Montana rivers so the Native Westlope cutthroat are eager to take a well presented attractor pattern. For those who are trying to maximize activities, the Main stem of the Flathead River is conveniently located near Bigfork, Lakeside, Kalispell, Glacier Park, Polson, & Whitefish, MT allowing for a half day fly fishing experience with time left in the day for other activities.
The Middle Fork Flathead River is a mid sized river that emerges from the wilderness area near the town of Essex, where it flows past the towering mountains of Glacier National Park and 
the Great Bear Wilderness. Numerous mountain goats can often be seen here as they travel down from their high peaks for the salt along the river. Grizzly Bears and other wildlife are also frequently found here as well. Dry fly attractor patterns are about the only thing you need in your box to have a productive day up here. Both the Mainstem and Middle Fork of the Flathead are primarily cutthroat fisheries with a few rainbows, hybrids(cuttbows), and native bull trout present.
The entire drainage has fish that average from 8-15 inches with some bigger fish thrown in the mix and the occasional bull trout. The Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park are not popular fly fishing destinations yet so crowds are not much of an issue like some of the famous "Blue Ribbon" rivers.
