July 24
Bigfork Anglers fly fishing report is brought
to you from the river by fly fishing guides and
anglers across western Montana.

General outlook: All the rivers are fishing well. Hoppers are out thick and the fish are starting to eat them. It looks like we are going to get some hot weather so the hopper action should really pick up.

Blackfoot River: Still fishing good with decent dry fly action. Hopper dropper rigs are working well with big peach and pink foam bugs getting some attention. Deep droppers will help keep you bent. Look for the green troughs and mid river holding water for fish. First and last lite will have some bigger fish around willing to eat the big dry. Nymphing with small g-bugs and bh attractors in smaller sizes will get fish if the dry dropper rig is'nt fast enough for you. Look out for the tube hatch on the lower river. Get out early and pick the right float to stay ahead of all the beer cans / rec floaters.
Fly Patterns:
Morrish Hoppers, Pink chubbies, smaller natural streamers, smaller golden stome nymphs, SJ worms, beadhead attractors, sallie nymphs, p-tails, caddis poopa, sj worms, foam golden stone variations, little sally dries, large cripples, pmd cripples, para caddis, purple c-duns, haze chutes, micro stone nymphs.

Lower Clark Fork River:
Hoppers are out and getting chugged. Get out there early or stay til dark to beat the heat and take advantage of the best dry fly fishing. A hopper and a deep dropper should be all you need. If it slows down, run a bobber rig a little deeper in some of the deeper boulder gardens, eddy lines, and mid river riffles to pick up fish. Sippers will eat a pmd cripple or spinner and late night fish like caddis.
Fly Patterns: Morrish Hoppers, Pink chubbies, foam golden stone variations, little sally dries, large cripples, pmd cripples, para caddis, purple c-duns, haze chutes, rubber legs, db stones, rubber legs, Micro stomes, sj worms, attractor beadheads, buggers, smaller flashy nymphs in the pmd / yellow sallie variety, caddis pupas

Flathead River:
Plenty of dry fly eats on the Flathead. Lots of dinks out with some decent fish if you are stroking the sweet spots. They have been getting some pressure so the nice fish are looking for a good drift and they are'nt coming back if you miss. A variety of attractor dries will work. The hoppers are still only about a half inch long but the fish are eating them. A variety of bh attractors fished 2-3 feet under the dry will help pick up fish too.
Fly Patterns: Morrish Hoppers, Pink chubbies, foam golden stone variations, little sally dries, large cripples, pmd cripples, para caddis, purple c-duns, haze chutes
Flexi girdle bugs, epoxy rubberlegs, 20 inchers, lightning stones, attractor beadheads, buggers, flash fry, bellyache minnows, skittish smolt, and the worm

Swan River:
Decent dry fly reports from the Swan. Foam attractors in various colors will work. Last light is a good time to be out. Get out and explore some of the side channels that are'nt getting hit. Streamers and nymphs will continue to produce as well.
Fly Patterns:
Morrish Hoppers, Pink chubbies, anything faom with legs, large attractor dry flies, Flexi girdle bugs, epoxy rubberlegs, 20 inchers, lightning stones, attractor beadheads, buggers, flash fry, bellyache minnows, skittish smolt, and the worm
